Candidates' Forum The PTA Council Candidate's Forum is an evening in which all candidates for the CCSD Board of Education are invited to present their views and answer questions from community members. This is an opportunity for each candidate to introduce themselves to the community and it is also an opportunity for Clarkstown residents to become informed prior to casting their vote. Founders Day Celebration Our Founders’ Day Celebration celebrates the principles on which PTA was founded. Individuals who have made a significant contribution to the children of Clarkstown are honored. All PTA Presidents attend with their building Principal for a meaningful candle lighting ceremony, 20 graduating seniors are awarded scholarships, and Reflections winners at the State and National level are honored. It is an evening where the work of PTA is highlighted, the accomplishments of our students are recognized and the theme of community is ever present.
PARP The PARP Program (Pick A Reading Partner) is a reading program which encourages parents or someone in a parental role (grandparents, aunts, uncles, step-parents, guardians, older siblings) to read with their child at least 15 minutes a day. A PARP program can be utilized in a school, library or community center and can run anywhere from two weeks to the entire school year. CCSD Elementary School PTAs design and implement a PARP Program each year as a way of promoting a love of reading in our children, enhancing family connections between parent and child, and supporting literacy in our schools. Presidents' Forum PTA Council holds a President's Forum each year and invites all CCSD PTA Presidents to attend. It is a round table discussion devoted almost completely to the issues and concerns facing CCSD PTA leaders. Problems are discussed, information is shared and strategies are developed to help PTA leaders manage and expand their PTA programs within their own school.
Reflections PTA believes all children deserve a quality arts education and encourages students to pursue artistic expression through participation in its annual arts Reflections Program. The program offers students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition. Students in preschool through grade 12 are encouraged to create and submit works of art in six areas: dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and the visual arts (which includes art forms such as drawing, painting, printmaking, and collage). For nearly 40 years, the program has encouraged millions of students across the nation and in American schools overseas to create works of art. The Reflections Program was started in 1969 by then Colorado PTA President Mary Lou Anderson. For more information and to access and download all necessary Reflections forms, rules and guidelines, please visit: REFLECTIONS INFO Scholarship Programs PTA Council oversees an annual Scholarship Program which awards $500 scholarships to ten graduating seniors from each of our High Schools. These scholarships are funded through our School Photography Program and the generous participation of our elementary school, middle school and high school PTAs. The Clarkstown community produces well-rounded students who take full advantage of what the school district has to offer. Their success is demonstrated in their academic achievements, as well as their participation in organizations, clubs, sports, and their community involvement. The Clarkstown Council of PTAs is very proud of our graduating seniors and believes in supporting our students for their achievements.
Staff Appreciation Breakfast Each year PTA Council provides a beautiful breakfast buffet for all the staff at the CCSD Central Administration Offices at Chestnut Grove. Fresh fruit, delicious muffins, fresh bagels with luscious spreads are the centerpieces of our buffet table decorated with colorful balloons and thank you signs. This event provides PTA Council with a way to say thank you to our hard-working central office staff for all they do!
