The Clarkstown Council of PTA's in Rockland County, NY, is comprised of the 15 local PTA Units in the Clarkstown Central School District including the 9 elementary schools, a middle school, 2 high schools, SEPTA (Special Education PTA), Jesse Kaplan PTA and PRIDE PTSA.
PTA Council helps build stronger, more effective units and provides leadership training and leadership opportunities for local unit members. It encourages local unit members to attend Region PTA conferences/workshops and state/national conventions. In addition, it acts as a coordinating body to promote communication and cooperation among its member units. Council engages in community-wide projects and is a link through which local PTAs can work on projects beyond the scope of a single unit. It is a channel of communication between parents, teachers, school administrators, school boards, children, and the public.
PTA Council provides an opportunity for local units to exchange ideas and plans to solve shared problems through meetings and workshops. It offers an opportunity for study groups to work on areas of interest and it can unify planning efforts to solve community wide problems affecting children and youth. PTA Council provides incentive and assistance for local unit participation in such activities as health & wellness programs, the Reflections program, the PARP program, legislation and advocacy, cultural arts, and our scholarship program for graduating seniors.
The PTA Council holds monthly meetings at the CCSD District Offices which is attended by the Council Board, representatives from each PTA unit and the Superintendent of Schools. In addition, the PTA Council provides a variety of programming for all CCSD PTA units and their members.
The mission of PTA is to support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the school, in the community, and before government bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children; to assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children and to encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation.
